Correct Automotive AC Compressor Replacement — The Steps That Matter
Step 1 — Recover refrigerant

Step 2 — Flush the circuit

When a system is opened for compressor replacement, atmospheric moisture enters the circuit — the receiver-drier is the primary protection against this moisture reaching the new compressor. A saturated or contaminated drier provides no protection. The receiver-drier is an inexpensive component relative to the compressor — replacing it every time the system is opened for major work is non-negotiable for a quality automotive AC repair.
